Adding Text to Your Pages

There are a couple of ways that you can add text to customize your pages. You can hand write using a regular pen or a calligraphy pen or you can add typed text to your pages and then print them at home. For handwritten pages, a lined variation of each printable page is supplied. If you would like to type your pages up before printing, choose the unlined version.

To add text to your pages by typing, you will first need to download the fonts that you would like to use. There are many font websites online which provide free fonts for personal use. Choose which fonts you would like, download them, and install them in your computer. Various style fonts are available depending on the style of your illuminated spellbook. You can also mix fonts as well as change the color if you would like to use more than just black and have a color printer available. You can also find fonts written in Theban and other script if you are looking to write a book in code or alternate script so that it cannot be read by others.

The following is a list of sites which offer beautiful fonts suitable for illuminated manuscripts and Pagan writing.

How To Add Typed Text to Your Pages

The printable illuminated spellbook pages come in Adobe PDF format and are best viewed in Adobe Reader. If you do not already have it installed, you can download it for free online.

To begin, open your downloaded, unzipped, printable files in Adobe Reader and find the page that you would like to print. To make this easier, click on the page thumbnail tab at the left of the screen.

Choose the page that you would like to print and use. Make note of the page number. This is located at the top left of the screen. You will need this page number when printing.

If you wish to hand-write text on your page, you will not need to do anything but print the page. When printing, make sure that you have the type of paper that you will be printing on installed in your printer.

Go to the File menu at the top left of your screen. Under File, choose Print. On the Print menu, be sure to click “pages” and specify the page number that you want printed. This will print only the one page that you desire. Then click Print at the bottom of the menu.

For handwritten pages, you can choose either the lined or unlined version. Most pages in this set have a version of each. If you want to hand-write but do not want lines on your page, you can lay your page over a piece of darkly-lined paper so that the lines show through as a guide.

If you would like to type text on your pages, you can do this in Adobe Reader. Click Comment at the top right of the screen and choose the text T. An Add Text Comment toolbar will open at the top of your screen. This will allow you to choose fonts, colors and font size for your text. Type out the text on your page. Do not save the PDF with text on it.

When you are ready to print your typed page, click on File at the top left and choose the Print tab. Be sure to click “pages” and specify the page number next to it or all 230 pages of the PDF will be printed. Click Print.
